A new back tee has been added on top of the reservoir embankment, making probably the most memorable tee shot on the course. In 1947 James Braid positioned Braids bunker to the right side of this heavily bunkered hole. The bunker still today gathers many a tee shot. The well bunkered green also slopes dramatically from left to right with many a short putt missed. Think twice before you concede that 18 inch downhill putt as if missed it could be 6 feet past.

The bridle path cuts through the middle of this short dog-legged par 4. A tough tee shot now faces all players. Cutting the corner and the out of bounds, with a right to left shaped shot, can shorten this hole for the longer hitters. The bail out shot to the right is now penalised with one of the original bunkers being restored to tighten the fairway. Gorse planting has also taken its place in the open area between the bridleway and the winter tee on the ninth hole. Two safely placed shots, however, missing the mounds, valleys, gorse and bunker that surround the green are more often rewarded.

A difficult tee shot awaits you as you stand on the 9th tee. Out of bounds left, trees right and the river !!!!!! running through the middle of the fairway. Once you have found the fairway the green will reward a well-placed approach. Miss the green however and trouble awaits - the railway is only a few feet behind the green and there are three bunkers strategically placed on either side.
